8: LOST AND FOUND PIGEONS

8.1 Reported of Found Pigeons
Any stray pigeon must be reported promptly to the secretary of the organisation responsible for issuing the ring. Should there be no response to the report within fourteen days the finder may do with the bird as he wishes.
8.2 Responsibility for Lost Pigeons
The owner of a bird reported as found is responsible for the found pigeon. The finder must be contacted immediately, and arrangements made for care of the bird. This is particularly important when the bird is reported by a member of the general public, as opposed to another pigeon fancier, because most people lack the knowledge and skills to take care of the lost bird. Under no circumstances is the owner to decline responsibility for the bird without agreement from the finder of the bird. The owner is responsible for all reasonable costs incurred in caring for and repatriating the lost bird. If the owner of the bird cannot be identified, the club issuing the ring of the bird is responsible for the bird.
